Tipping fee info:
The landfill tipping fee increased $4.00 per ton  July 1, 2009.
This is only the third rate increase in the past 13 years. For those who have city garbage pickup, this amounts to a mere 6 cent increase on a 30# sack of garbage.  If your city garbage bill went up much more than that, the extra is going to pay for things other than the hauler's landfill bill.  Our tipping fee is below the state average and median, yet we offer more services than many landfills charging higher fees than FMC.  This slight increase will enable us to continue offering local, affordable, safe, proper disposal of solid waste at one of the lowest rates in the state, E-Waste recycling, and disposal of Household Hazardous Waste at no charge to residents of our service area.

There is a minimum charge of $7.50. From that point the tipping fee is prorated at the current rate per ton of waste.  Each vehicle is weighed for accuracy.

Items Not Acceptable for Disposal: Items not acceptable for disposal include free liquids, deposit beverage containers, brush and yard waste, hazardous waste, and red bag medical waste. Household Hazardous Waste may be disposed of April – October at our satellite facilities (dates and times subject to change), or daily at the landfill. Tires and appliances must not be commingled with other waste. They are accepted in the trailer to the west of the office. Appliances that are demolished or burned are still considered an appliance and a separate charge applies. Yard waste may be disposed of at no charge at the Shaw Avenue Compost Site in Charles City, or the Mitchell County Recycling Center. You may call your City Hall for more locations.

Items that shall be Recycled: CRT’s (monitors, televisions) have a separate fee and should not be commingled with other waste. Electronics such as vcr’s, stereos, computers, etc. may be recycled at no fee.

Covered Load Policy: To avoid an additional $20.00 fee all loads brought to the landfill must be entirely covered with a tarp, snow fence or similar item.. This includes lumber and large objects. Ropes alone are not considered a cover. Certain "difficult to cover loads" may be exempted on a case by case basis by the Director.

All loads which did not originate in our service area of Floyd, Mitchell, & Chickasaw counties, plus Chester and Elma, Iowa are NOT accepted.

All prices subject to change without notice.
