Recycling Tips

Below is some general information on recycling:

  • Containers should be rinsed, free of residue, and without accompanying plastic lids. Recyclables must be clean enough to avoid odors. Prepare your recyclables as soon as possible to avoid a mess.
  • Generally, labels do not need to be removed from tin, glass, or plastic containers.
  • Flatten cardboard and paperboard (such as cereal boxes) to save on space.

Items unacceptable by recyclers in Floyd, Mitchell, & Chickasaw Counties

Plastics: unmarked (no recycling logo), shopping bags, styrofoam, and containers that held automotive chemicals or cooking oils

Cardboard: containers or sheets that have been contaminated by oil, grease, or food; wax coated cardboard such as milk, juice, and butter containers

Glass: windows, mirrors, ceramics, and light bulbs

Paper: waxed paper, tissues, napkins, paper towels, paper plates, crayon drawings, pet food bags, fertilizer bags, gift wrap, and photographs

Metal: batteries, syringes/needles, knives, nails, and oil filters
